This is a driver for using the SPD Series on Mac OS X 10.4/10.5.
To use this driver, you must set the "USB Driver" of the SPD Series to "VENDER."
- Compatible with Apple's standards of CoreMIDI
- Universal Binary Driver (This driver can work on both Intel and PowerPC processors.)
- Single/Multi processor support
This driver has the following requirements.

- Operating System
- Mac OS X v10.4 or later
* | This driver cannot be used on Mac OS X 10.6 or later. |
* | This will not operate in the Classic environment of Mac OS X. When using this, the Classic environment must not be running simultaneously. |

- Computer
- Apple Macintosh series computer with on-board USB
* | Macintosh computers running Microsoft Windows are not supported. |
- Before you start up your sequencer or related software, use a USB cable to connect the SPD Series to your computer and turn on the power of SPD Series.
- Do not turn off the power of the SPD Series or disconnect the USB cable during playback or recording. Doing so may cause your software or operating system to shut down abnormally.
- You must first exit your sequencer or related software, and then switch off the SPD Series's power or disconnect the USB cable.
- You must disconnect the SPD Series from the computer before performing a software update for Mac OS X. If you performed the Mac OS X software update with the SPD Series left connected, you will need to re-install the driver.
* | Before installing the driver, you must set the "USB Driver" of the SPD Series to "VENDER." |
* | If the "Authenticate" dialog box or the dialog that indicates "Installer requires that you type your password" appears during the installation, input the password and click [OK]. |
- Start computer with all USB cables disconnected.
(except the keyboard and mouse)
- Double-click "SPDSeriesUSBDriver.pkg."
- In some cases, the display will indicate "This Installer package needs to run a program to determine if it can be installed. Do you want to continue?" or "This package contains a program that determines if the software can be installed. Are you sure you want to continue?"; click [Continue].
- The display will indicate "Welcome to the SPD Series Driver Installer"; click [Continue].
- If the display indicates "Select a Destination," click the drive on which the system is installed, then click [Continue].
- The display will indicate "Easy Install" or "Standard Install"; click [Install] or [Upgrade].
- The display will indicate "Installing this software requires you to restart..."; click [Continue Installation].
- The display will indicate "Click Restart to finish installing the software"; click [Restart]. Your computer will then restart.
* | It may take some time for restarting the computer. |
This completes installation of the SPD Series driver.
- Use a USB cable to connect the SPD Series with your computer, and then turn the POWER switch of the SPD Series to the "ON" position.
- In the Applications - Utilities folder, double-click "Audio MIDI Setup" to start it up.
- Click the "MIDI Devices" tab.
- In the "Audio MIDI Setup" dialog box, make sure that "SPD Series" is displayed.
* | If "SPD Series" is not shown, or is shown in gray, the SPD Series has not been recognized correctly. Try clicking "Rescan MIDI." Alternatively, switch the power of the SPD Series off, then back on again. |
* | If you installed a different version driver, it is possible that the previous settings are still present. If so, click the grayed "SPD Series" to select it, and then click "Remove Device" to delete the previous settings. |
- Click "Add Device." A "new external device" will appear.
- Specify the "Device Name" for the "new external device."
- Click the added "new external device" to select it, and then click "Show Info."
- Enter "SPD" in the "Device Name" field.
- Using your mouse, drag the up/down arrows indicating the input/output port to make the following connections.
- The ▲/▼ of the "SPD Series" to the ▲/▼ of the added "SPD"
- To verify that MIDI transmission/reception is occurring correctly, perform the following procedure.
- Click "Test Setup."
* | The following step will cause a relatively loud sound to be produced by the sound generator, so it is a good idea to turn down the volume on the sound generator first. |
- Click the down arrows of SPD Series. If you hear sound, the settings have been made correctly.
- Click "Test Setup" once again to end the test.
- Close the "Audio MIDI Setup" dialog box. This completes the settings.
- Use a USB cable to connect the SPD Series with your computer. Then, start up the software you will be using.
- Select SPD Series in the MIDI driver setting of your software.
For details, refer to the manual that came with your software.
- Start computer with all USB cables disconnected.

- Double-click "SPDSeries_Uninstaller."
- The display will indicate "This uninstalls SPD Series driver from this Macintosh."; click [Uninstall].
* | If any other message appears, proceed as directed by that message. |
- The display will indicate "Are you sure to uninstall the driver?"; click [OK].
- The "Authenticate" dialog box or the dialog that indicates "SPDSeries_Uninstaller.app requires that you type your password." will appear; enter the password and click [OK].
- The display will indicate "Uninstllation is completed."; click [Restart]. Your computer will then restart.
* | It may take some time for restarting the computer. |
- Did the computer enter a Sleep mode while the SPD Series was connected with its power turned on?
- If the computer entered a Sleep mode while the SPD Series was connected with its power turned on, it may not operate correctly. In this case, after resuming, exit all software that are using the SPD Series, and then turn on the power of the SPD Series once again.

- Could you have entered Sleep mode during playback or recording?
- If you entered Sleep mode during playback or recording, it will no longer be possible to play back or record from the SPD Series. Exit all currently playing or recording software, and switch the power of the SPD Series off, then back on again.
