Your computer downloads the Windows® 10 driver for SPD Series automatically from the Internet when SPD Series is connected to the computer.
* | To use this driver, you must set the USB Driver of the SPD Series to "VENDER." |
* | When using a touch-enabled PC, replace the words "click" and "right-click" in this document with "tap" and "press and hold", respectively. |

* | Even if connected to a USB 3.0 port, the performance of the product will not change. |
* | This driver cannot be used in a virtual Windows environment, such as Hyper-V or Virtual PC. |

* | The Internet connection is needed to download the driver. |
- Sound interruption or other less-than-perfect outcomes may be experienced if your computer's performance and specifications are somewhat inadequate. The types of applications you use and the way in which you use them can also influence the experience you receive.
- If the PC is started up while the SPD Series is still connected to the PC with its power turned on, the driver may not be loaded properly and you may not be able to use the SPD Series. In such cases, connect the SPD Series to another USB port or turn on the power of SPD Series after the PC starts up.
- If the SPD Series does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the SPD Series, and then turn the power of the SPD Series off and on again.
- If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the SPD Series is in use, or if the power of the SPD Series is turned off, then on again, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, after resuming, you should exit all applications that use the SPD Series, and turn the power of the SPD Series off, then on again.
- If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load, such as when accessing a CD-ROM Drive or network while the SPD Series was being used, the SPD Series may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the SPD Series, then turn the SPD Series off and then on again.
* | Before installing the driver, you must set the USB Driver of the SPD Series to "VENDER." |
* | To reinstall or update the driver, refer to "To reinstall." |
- Disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, and then start Windows.
- Check that the computer is connected to the Internet.
- On Windows, close the "Sound" settings screen of the Control Panel and all running applications.

Turn on the power of SPD Series and connect it to the computer using a USB cable.
The driver will be installed automatically.
- After several minutes, click the start button and then click "All apps".
Open the Roland folder. If the "SPD Series" icon is displayed, the installation is completed.
* | Under normal conditions, the driver installation is completed in several minutes.It may take about 10 minutes depending on the Internet connectivity or if there are other drivers being installed for other devices. |
* | A problem may have occurred if SPD Series is connected but cannot be used after waiting for 10 minutes.Refer to "Troubleshooting." |
In the application(s) that you intend to use, specify the MIDI device they are to use. (For details on this setting, refer to the owner's manual for your application.)
* | If you are unable to select the SPD Series device, a problem may have occurred. Refer to "Troubleshooting." |

* | In the Windows Media Player, the MIDI input/output device of SPD Series cannot be used. Please select the following device in your MIDI compatible application. |

When the driver installation is completed, you can open the Readme file (this document) by following the procedure described below.
Use this file for troubleshooting and for checking how to set up the driver.
- Click the start button and then click "All apps".
- Open the Roland folder and then click "SPD Series Readme".
- The online document for the driver is displayed.
- When changing driver settings, always make sure to first quit all applications using the SPD Series. This is unnecessary when only checking the settings.
- Click the start button and then click "All apps".

Open the Roland folder and then click "SPD Series".
- The "SPD Series Driver Settings" dialog box will appear.
* | You can also open the SPD Series Driver Settings dialog box from the Windows Control Panel.In the Control Panel, click View by: and change it to an icon display, and then double-click the SPD Series icon. |
- To modify the settings, make the changes and click [OK]. To simply check the settings, be sure to click [Cancel] after viewing the settings.
- The "Light Load" check box
- Normally, you should leave this check box cleared.
* | The modified setting will take effect after you turn the power of the SPD Series on/off. |

- "Show README" button
- This button displays the README file (this document).

- Information
- This field shows the driver version.
- Delete the driver as described in "To uninstall."
- Install the driver as described in "Installation."
- Disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, and then start Windows.
* | Be sure to also remove the SPD Series's USB cable. |
- Exit all applications before you begin the uninstallation.
* | Please wait for about 10 seconds until these applications exit completely. |
- Right-click the start button and then click "Programs and Features".
- In the list, choose "SPD Series Driver", and click "Uninstall/Change."
* | The driver is not installed if SPD Series Driver is not displayed in the list.You do not need to uninstall the driver. |
- If a dialog box regarding User Account Control appears, click [Yes].
* | If you are asked to enter the password for an administrative account, sign in to Windows as a user whose Account Type is Administrator, and then perform the uninstallation. |
- The display will indicate "The installed SPD Series Driver will be uninstalled." and click the [OK].
- When the message "Uninstallation was completed." is displayed, click [OK] to restart Windows.
- Check the status of the device
- Under normal conditions, the driver installation is completed in several minutes.
- If the SPD Series is connected but cannot be used after waiting for 10 minutes, follow the procedure below and check the status of the device.

Turn on the power of SPD Series and connect it to the computer using a USB cable.
- Right-click the start button and then click "Device Manager".
- In the View menu, click "Devices by type".
- Click "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Other devices" to display the SPD Series device.
- When the SPD Series device appears, double-click it to open the "SPD Series Properties" screen.
- Under the General tab, check the "Device status" field.
- If the message in this field is "This device is working properly.", the driver installation is completed.
- Otherwise, the driver installation may have failed.

- Is your computer connected to Internet?
- To install this driver, your PC must be connected to the Internet.
- Check that your PC is connected to the Internet (for example by using a Web browser), and then install the driver again by following the steps described in the "Installation" section.

- Reconnect SPD Series
- The device recognition may have failed.
- Disconnect SPD Series's USB cable, turn off the power of SPD Series and turn it on again, and then reconnect it to your PC.

- Install the driver manually
- Depending on the Internet connectivity, the driver may not be installed automatically.
- If this is the case, follow the procedure below to install the driver.

Turn on the power of SPD Series and connect it to the computer using a USB cable.
- Right-click the start button and then click "Device Manager".
- In the View menu, click "Devices by type".
- Click "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Other devices" to display the SPD Series device.
- When the SPD Series device appears, right-click it, and then select "Update Driver Software".
- Select "Search automatically for updated driver software".
Your PC starts searching for the driver, and the driver is installed automatically.
- The installation is completed if the "Windows has successfully updated your driver software" message is displayed. Click "Close".
- If the "System Settings Change" dialog box appears, click [Yes] to restart Windows.

- Is the SPD Series's USB Driver set to "VENDER"?
- Be sure to set the SPD Series's USB Driver to "VENDER."

- Was the driver installed correctly?
- The driver may not be installed properly.See the "Cannot install the driver" section.
- If you cannot use SPD Series after the driver is installed, reinstall the driver by following the procedure described in the "To reinstall" section.

- Could the SPD Series be in use by other software?
- Exit all applications that are using the SPD Series, and turn the power of the SPD Series off, then on again.
If this does not solve the problem, use the procedure described in "To reinstall" to reinstall the driver.

- Is the SPD Series MIDI device name displayed?
- If the device name is not displayed, exit all applications that are using the SPD Series, and turn the power of the SPD Series off, then on again.
If this does not solve the problem, use the procedure described in "To reinstall" to reinstall the driver.

- Did the computer enter a Sleep mode while the SPD Series was connected with its power turned on?
- If the SPD Series does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the SPD Series, and then turn the power of the SPD Series off and on again.

- Was the USB cable disconnected and reconnected while the SPD Series was being used, or was the power of the SPD Series turned off, then on again?
- If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the SPD Series is in use, or if the power of the SPD Series is turned off, then on again, it may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, exit all applications that are using the SPD Series, and turn the power of the SPD Series off, then on again.

- If the PC is started up while the SPD Series is still connected to the PC with its power turned on, the driver may not be loaded properly and you may not be able to use the SPD Series.
- In such cases, connect the SPD Series to another USB port or turn on the power of SPD Series after the PC starts up.

- Could you have connected the SPD Series to a different USB port?
- If you connect the SPD Series to a different USB port, the operating system may automatically add a number to the beginning of the device name.
Even if this occurs, it will not cause any problems with the operation of the SPD Series.
* | If you want to restore the device name that does not have this added number, connect the SPD Series to the same USB port as when you installed it, or reinstall the driver as described in "To reinstall." |
- Was the driver installed correctly?

- Could the SPD Series be in use by other software?
-
- Did you make settings as described in "Before you begin" so that the SPD Series driver could be used?
- The SPD Series cannot be used unless you make these settings. Refer to the sections on "Before you begin."

- Could you have entered Sleep mode during playback or recording?
- If the SPD Series does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the SPD Series, and then turn the power of the SPD Series off and on again.
-
- During playback or recording, did you turn the power of the SPD Series on/off, or disconnect and reconnect the USB cable?
- If you turn the power of the SPD Series on/off or disconnect and reconnect the USB cable during playback or recording, the SPD Series will no longer be able to play back or record. Stop playback or recording, and then start playback or recording once again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the SPD Series, then turn the SPD Series off and then on again.

Problems may be solved by making the settings shown below.
- Try updating the driver of your display adaptor
- You may be able to eliminate clicks and pops by updating the driver for the display adaptor installed in your computer.

- Windows Update / Microsoft Update
- You may be able to solve the problem by updating your system with "Windows Update" or "Microsoft Update" provided by Microsoft.

- Check the power management settings
- Open "Control Panel," click "System and Security," and then click "Power Options."
* | If the icon view is selected for the Control Panel, click "Power Options." |
- In "Choose or customize a power plan," choose "High performance."
* | If the "High performance" plan is not shown, click "Show additional plans." |
- In the High performance area, click "Change plan settings."
- Click "Change advanced power settings."
- In the Advanced Settings, click the “+” symbol for "Hard Disk," and click the “+”symbol for "Turn off hard disk after" to open it.
- Click "Setting (Minutes)," and click the down arrow to change the setting to "Never."
- Click [OK] to close the Power Options window.
- Close the "Edit Plan Settings" screen.
- "Performance Options" settings of System Properties
- Open "Control Panel," click "System and Security," and then click "System."
* | If the icon view is selected for the Control Panel, click "System." |
- At the left, click "Advanced system settings."
- If a dialog box regarding User Account Control appears, click [Yes].
* | If you are asked to enter the password of an Administrator account, sign in to Windows as a user whose Account Type is Administrator, then perform the settings again. |
- Click [Settings] of the Performance section, and then click the [Advanced] tab.
- Select "Background services," and click [OK].
- Click [OK] to close "System Properties."
- Such problems may be solved if you check the "Light Load" check box in the Driver Settings dialog box.
- If you wish to modify or verify the settings, use the procedure described in "Changing/checking driver settings."
* | The modified setting will take effect after you turn the power of the SPD Series on/off. Unless you experience problems, use the unchecked (initial) setting. |
